St. Petersburg

Where locals enjoy endless sunshine, a scenic waterfront view, and a deeply-integrated history.

Welcome to St. Petersburg

Starting with just 300 people in the small town of St. Petersburg in 1892, the region has grown substantially since its establishment, carrying a rich history. It is said that St. Petersburg got its name from a coin toss in 1888 that started with the very first train arriving in the area. The toss was between John Constantine Williams from Detroit and Peter Demens from Russia. Demens won, naming the city after Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Today, you can see its vibrant history through an array of commercial and residential architecture. Some of the most prominent styles include Tudor, Colonial, Craftsman, Art Deco, mid-century modern, and Colonial.

  • Year-round sunshine
  • Gorgeous waterfront views

Local Lifestyle

As the only city on Florida's gulf coast, St. Petersburg has become most popular for golfing, boating, fishing, and beachgoing. Locals in the area spend most of their time exploring the hidden gems and treasures throughout the Gulf. Days are spent basking in the sun, walking local trails, swimming, and more. However, that doesn't mean a thriving commercial area like St. Petersburg isn't also known for its retail, entertaining, and dining.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

There's plenty to do on the beach and in the Gulf Coast water, but that's not all St. Petersburg has to offer. In particular, residents enjoy visiting the Tropicana Field, Dali Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Mahaffey Theater, and Urban Stillhouse the most.

The Tropicana Field is home to the Tampa Bay Rays and a baseball museum that means the world to many in the area. The Dali Museum, also known as the Salvador Dali Museum, has the most comprehensive collection of Salvador Dali's surrealist art. Similarly, the Museum of Fine Arts offers visitors a unique insight into exhibits that span as far as 4,000 years.

When the occasion calls for elegance, a waterfront view of the Golf Coast, and the Florida Orchestra, there's no better place to be than Mahaffey Theater. Before or after, however, locals tend to flock to The Urban Stillhouse to enjoy their renowned beef and seafood dishes and famous bourbon and cocktail tastings.

Things to Do

In addition to entertainment and dining, St. Petersburg has some great attractions in the area. Namely, Fort De Soto Park, First Fridays, Beach Bash at The Pier, and SHINE St. Pete Mural Festival.

Fort De Soto Park is a vast landscape where locals often camp, enjoy the beaches, walk or run trails, and explore the famous historic fort. For once-in-a-lifetime experiences, however, locals are attracted to the other three events.

First Fridays are the block parties that take over the downtown area every first Friday of the month, filling it with live entertainment, great food, fun activities, and most of the local community. The Beach Bash at The Pier is an event centered around tacos and tequila. The SHINE St. Pete Mural Festival is all about revitalizing the art in the St. Petersburg community, featuring some of the world's best artists.
